MR HAYDN JONES
The funeral took place at the Gwent Crematorium Croesyceiliog, of Mr. Haydn Jones,
aged 58, of Llanwenarth Lodge, Gilwern, and formerly of 18, King Street, Nantyglo.
Rev. T. Hislop, of Zion Church Brynmawr, officiated.
Mr. Jones was a lifelong inhabitant of Natyglo and had worked as a butcher since
he left school.
He was manager of the butchery department of the Nantyglo Co-operative Stores
until he opened his own butcher's and grocery shop in King Street, Nantyglo,
where he carried on a highly successful business until his retirement some weeks
ago when he moved to Gilwern.
Mr. Jones was a keen boxing fan and an enthusiastic angler.
He and some friends were instrumental in reviving the Natyglo and Blaina Angling
Society which now has a strong membership.
In his younger days, Mr. Jones was a well known snooker player and was a member
of the Nantyglo team who won the Western Valley Snooker League Cup in the 1930's.
Mr. Jones, who recently became a member of the Govilon Association Football Club,
was held in very high esteem and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

Many other friends attended the service at the crematorium.

He was a Butcher. Butcher - owned butcher/grocery shop. Smoked/drank/worked/played
(snooker & cards) hard. Bit nails very hard. Had haircut every week - original
skinhead. If losing at cards, used to say that meant more bread in the sausages
next day. Keen fisherman. Frequently said "Good girls never grumble -
they just bloody moan!"
